THE council’s initiative in giving out daffodil and crocus bulbs free to Solihull residents to ‘brighten up the borough’ appears welcome.
You can apply for ‘Let it Grow’ bulbs – but only on the condition they are planted within half-a-metre of a road sign. It seems a curious caveat.
Councillor Tony Dicicco states Let it Grow is intended to add colour to streets and the flowers will “encourage more wildlife”.
Yet the council’s part explanation is that planting the bulbs next to a road sign will signal to council grounds maintenance workers they should avoid strimming these areas.
Which is a different matter altogether.
