EDDIE The Eagle inspired over £2,300 in donations for Solihull Age UK at an event last week.

Local charity for the elderly, Age UK Solihull, staged a fundraising event featuring Olympic skier, Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards.

The event was attended by Solihull mayor Stuart Davis, who opened the event and drew the raffle.

Eddie gave an animated talk about his life leading up to his historic jumps at the 1988 Winter Olympics as well as regaling how a film about his life came to be made.

He also held a question and answer session, which covered everything from his appearance on the TV series “Splash” to the type of skis he uses.

Money raised from the event will help Age UK Solihull continue to support older people in the borough with the challenges faced in later life.

The event was held in partnership with Solihull School and was sponsored by Solihull eye consultants, Midland Eye.

Lorraine Hart, fundraising manager at Age UK Solihull, says: “It was a fantastic evening and guests gave us some great feedback on how much they enjoyed the event. Eddie was truly inspiring and a lovely fella to boot.

“He posed for lots of photos and signed numerous autographs. We are grateful to him and to Solihull School, Midland Eye, all the volunteers who helped on the evening and local businesses who kindly donated raffle prizes”.
