EASTENDERS hard-man Phil Mitchell is set to turn on the Christmas lights in Chelmsley Wood.

Actor Steve McFadden, best known for his role in the soap, will be leaving Albert Square to flick the switch on the shopping centre lights on November 23.

The shopping centre said it was “delighted” to announce the actor was visiting to do the honours.

The big switch-on will take place in Chelmsley Wood from noon on Saturday, November 23.

A spokesperson for the shopping centre said: “Following on from the last couple of years we have booked Steve McFadden, one of the biggest names in soap history, to turn on the Christmas lights at the shopping centre.

“We hope everyone is as excited as we are to welcome him.”

There will be plenty of other activities taking place on the day and a visit from Father Christmas himself.

All monies raised will go towards the Children’s appeal at Solihull Hospital and the Incubator appeal at Heartlands Hospital.

Steve is the latest in a string of stars to visit Chelmsley Wood for the festive switch-on.

Last year, Emmerdale actor Adam Thomas turned on the lights, while in 2017 Eastenders’ Jake Wood, who plays Max Branning, did the honours.
