A CAR was clocked by police doing 71mph on the Stratford Road in Shirley on Tuesday evening.

Officers from the St Alphege Safer Neighbourhood Team, who carried out the speed checks, caught a total of 14 drivers speeding.

Elsewhere in the borough the volunteers of Hillfield and Monkspath speedwatch group were out and about on on Widney Lane and managed to record 25 drivers breaking the 30mph speed limit.

The offenders will be receiving a letter from the police.

Reflecting on the speedwatch group, Solihull’s top cop Chief Supt. Ian Parnell said on Twitter: “These initiatives work best when they are community driven and community supported.”
