Dorridge teen hosts fundraising concert to boost funds for gap year

A DORRIDGE teenager is hosting a fundraising concert to boost her plans to teach in South Africa.

Hannah Dodd will be flying out in August alongside a group of others where she will work in a school teaching English during her gap year.

The 18-year-old teamed up with Project Trust which sends people on gap year projects across the globe.

But to get there Hannah needs to raise £6,950.

So far the Arden Academy pupil has raised just under £1,000 but hopes her charity concert on January 22 will give her funds a boost.

Hannah said there will be a mix of professional artists and school students performing at the Station Road School in Knowle.

There will also be South African inspired food and a raffle.

Hannah said she chose South Africa as it is a country she always waned to visit due to the diversity and culture the country has to offer and it also links with the university degree she intend to study when she returns.

While on placement in South Africa Hannah will live either with a local family or in a house in the community she is teaching in.

She will be given the chance to experience what life is really like in the country and take part in festivities.

Tickets to the concert are available at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/198212989387.
