WORLD Book Day celebrations were in full swing at Dorridge Primary School.

The school welcomed author Jenny McLachlan on the official release date of the fifth book in her The Land of Roar series.

Year 4 and 5 took part in quizzes, magical spells, heard personal stories about her writing process and a dramatic storytelling.

The school said it was an unforgettable and inspirational morning, leaving Dorridge pupils brimming with ideas and enthusiasm for their own creative writing.

Jodie Hales, head of school KS2, said: “We love to welcome authors into Dorridge Primary School because their stories spark curiosity, inspire creativity, and show our pupils that every great book begins with a single idea.

“Meeting real writers helps our children see themselves as storytellers too. Most importantly, we want all our children to discover the joy of reading for pleasure, so they grow up seeing books as something to love, not just something to learn from.”

The celebrations continued with Book Squad’s exclusive World Book Day event recording, featuring Jenny alongside fellow best-selling authors Hannah Gold, Nadia Shireen and Emma Carroll.

This gave children another chance to hear from leading voices in children’s literature, learning about their inspirations, writing journeys, and creative processes.

The younger pupils were paid a visit from local author Kate Jones who share two of her stories during the afternoon of World Book Day and hosted a question and answer session.

Gemma Thelwell, head of school EYFS/KS1, said: “Reading truly is at the heart of everything we do, and World Book Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate that.

“This year, our children have taken part in a range of exciting activities all designed to ignite curiosity and build confident, joyful readers.

“We believe that every child is a reader, and World Book Day allows us to nurture their individual reading identities by offering choice, inspiration and engaging experiences.

“Whether it’s comics, audiobooks, magazines or novels, it all counts, and our aim is simple: to help every child discover reading in a way that feels relevant, enjoyable and uniquely theirs.”
