Dorridge commuters and shoppers can take a breather

TRAIN passengers and shoppers have a place to rest their feet at Dorridge Station after two new benches were installed.

Knowle and Dorridge Lions raised £2,000 for the commemorative benches as part of the club’s 40th anniversary in the area and the 100th anniversary of the club nationally.

The Lions hope the benches will give some rest and comfort to weary travellers as they wait for their bus or lift.

Knowle and Dorridge Lions and Dorridge and District Residents Association formally ‘opened’ the benches last month.

Dave Carter, member at Knowle and Dorridge Lions, said each year the club reserves a proportion of the funds it raises from the Lions Festive Walk, Knowle Fun Run and Heart of England Bike Ride for local initiatives and other local causes, of which there are many requests.

He added: “We felt they would provide a useful service for local residents as meeting places – the ones outside the rail station being more popular than the bus shelter (except when it rains) whilst waiting for your lift, taxi or bus.

“The ones in Knowle are already a popular gathering point for those moving on to local restaurants, or sitting for a rest.”
