A ROUNDABOUT in Dickens Heath has been named as one of the best in the UK.

The Roundabout Appreciation Society (RAS) praised the ‘octagonal’ roundabout on Dickens Heath Road for its unusual shape.

The RAS also highlighted “beautiful” and “magnificent” roundabouts in Truro, Nuneaton and Swindon.

The top examples will feature in the society’s 2020 calendar.

President Kevin Beresford – the self-styled “Lord of the Rings” – said the octagonal roundabout will take the April page.

He said: “We chose Dickens Heath octagonal roundabout for the April slot in our 2020 BEST OF BRITISH ROUNDABOUTS to show that not all roundabouts are round.

“Also I think it’s kinda cute.”

The Dickens Heath roundabout was pipped to the post of being handed the title Best in the UK by a roundabout in Truro, Cornwall, which is the home to hedgehogs named Cecile, Patricia, Denzil and Kizzy.

These nocturnal cute critters have take not only the front page but also the December slot in the calendar.
