DEDICATED volunteers at the NSPCC District at Knowle and Dorridge have clocked up 44-years of service.

Penny Harbour, Shelia Walford and Anne Hand each received awards for their service to children’s charity at Copt Heath Golf Club in Solihull, which marked the 25th anniversary of their fundraising lunches.

The group was founded in 1981 and has raised over half a million pounds for the NSPCC through community fundraising events and activities.

A whopping £321,000 of that total coming from fundraising lunches held over the past 25 years.

Penny said: “I am thrilled and very touched. It means a lot, though not deserved, since I’ve always enjoyed what I do. It’s the children and youth who need all the encouragement we can give. Thank you very much, it was truly appreciated.”

Shelia said: “What a surprise for us – Penny, Anne and myself. I’m very grateful, thanks for such an award. It will be very highly regarded.”

The NSPCC’s chief executive, Chris Sherwood, sent a video message of thanks to the volunteers during the event to celebrate their achievements.

Amanda Synnott, the NSPCC’s community fundraising manager for the West Midlands, said: “Penny, Shelia and Anne- their dedication is inspiring, proving that a small group of people’s kindness can ripple out and transform a community. They have selflessly given themselves to such an important cause for decades.

“We can give back in the only way we can, with our deepest gratitude. May their legacy of compassion continue to inspire future generations to support the NSPCC as they have.”
