THE DEADLINE to sign up to the latest round of a scheme which has given residents exclusive energy tariffs and saved on annual energy bills in looming.

Known as the Big Community Switch, the collective energy switching scheme is designed to secure better energy deals for households, helping them switch energy suppliers, move to a 100 per cent renewable electricity tariff, and potentially save money on their energy bills.

It uses the bargaining power of a large group to help secure lower prices from energy suppliers.

More than 35,000 UK households have registered interest in this collective energy switching scheme to save money on energy bills, and there is still time for residents of Solihull to join them.

Residents have until midnight on April 11 to register and accept the offer from the March auction winner: British Gas.

Councillor Andy Mackiewicz, cabinet member for Climate Change and Planning, said: “The Big Community Switch is a scheme with tremendous potential to do good for residents in Solihull, having already helped more than 7,580 residents save a staggering £1.921 million combined since 2015, as well as 3,687 tonnes of CO2. This latest offer will allow those residents that accept the offer by 11th April to save an average of up to £291 annually.

“Cutting down on our emissions at home is hugely important as around a quarter of all carbon emissions in Solihull come from the energy we use in our homes. Switching to green, renewable energy is one-way residents can play their part – whilst making significant savings on their energy bill.”

Switching energy suppliers can be a challenging task, especially in the current market conditions, and the initiative ensures that households can easily access competitive deals.

Suppliers compete for the opportunity to offer households the lowest energy tariff, and there’s no need to compare different tariffs as everyone registered receives a personal offer.

Since 2012, Big Community Switch has more than 2.1million people register their interest in switching energy contracts through the schemes.

George Frost, UK country manager at iChoosr, which helps accelerate the energy transition by engaging people with sustainable products and services, said: “Big Community Switch has a clear mission: to help households easily find better energy deals and ease the financial burden of high energy costs.

“Now is the perfect time for residents to take action, with the scheme providing a competitive tariff fixed for 12-months to protect you against further rises in the energy market.

“Whether unhappy with a current provider or waiting for a more stable market, Big Community Switch is here to assist, helping manage energy costs more effectively.”
