THE DEADLINE for Silhillians to apply for free home upgrades to help save money on energy bills and make their home warmer is looming.
Residents have until January 31 to apply to the Home Upgrade Grant Phase 2 (HUG2).
HUG2 provides grants to install free energy efficiency measures – at no cost to residents – including insulation, solar panels, air source heat pumps, and more.
Solihull Council say collectively, buildings are the largest source of the borough’s emissions (49 per cent) and nearly a quarter (24 per cent) are from energy for heating and powering homes.
Solihull Council’s cabinet member for Housing, Councillor Mark Parker, said: “This scheme is a win-win for Solihull and residents, helping to decarbonise our homes in the borough, whilst ensuring residents are keeping warm at home and saving money on their energy bills with upgrades that come at no cost to them.
“The deadline for HUG2 is fast approaching, so we encourage residents to get their applications in quick.
“For those who are not eligible or miss the cut-off, there are a number of other energy efficiency grants schemes available so it is worth checking our website to see if you could apply.”
Further information on HUG2 and other energy efficiency grants can be found on Your Future Solihull, the Council’s climate change and sustainability campaign website.
HUG2 is a Government-funded scheme which is administered locally by Solihull Council.
To be eligible, residents must be homeowner occupiers in off-gas properties, have a combined annual income of under £36,000, and an energy performance certificate (EPC) between D and G.
Residents can also check if their postcode falls in one of the automatically eligible areas.
All grants are subject to eligibility criteria, funding availability and a technical survey to identify what improvements are suitable for their home.
Energy advice charity Act On Energy is supporting Solihull Council on the HUG2 programme and is the main point of contact for enquiries and applications.
Residents who meet all the eligibility criteria can contact Act on Energy on 0800 988 2881 or [email protected].
