DANCERS got into the groove at Memory Cafes across the borough.
The Knowle and Dorridge Memory Café the and Solihull Memory Café hosted Dancing for Dementia tea dances events to raise funds for Dementia UK and Alzheimer’s Society.
Special guests from Aura Dance Studios, including young ballroom champions Libbi and Eden, performed a selection of ballroom and Latin dances across both events.
The duo also taught some dances to attendees who then joined in.
The events offered a relaxed and welcoming environment for people living with dementia, their families, caregivers, and residents.
And visitors will have the chance to enjoy tea and cake, watch live dance performances, and take part in easy-to-follow dancing throughout the morning.
The events raised £1,000 which will be split evenly across both charities.
Philip Maundrill, co-founder and director of Unique Senior Care, which oversees the running of the cafes said: “The tea dances were everything we hoped they would be. They brought people together, raised awareness of dementia, and created a lot of smiles along the way. Unique Senior Care’s Memory Cafés are all about helping people feel connected and supported, and these events really captured that spirit.
“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make them such a success, from our volunteers and performers to the local organisations, community leaders, and families who joined us and donated.”
The events follow shortly after Dementia Action Week, the national Alzheimer’s Society campaign which encourages greater awareness, understanding, and support for people affected by dementia.
The cafés are designed to give people living with dementia, their families, and caregivers a welcoming space to connect with others, access support and advice, and enjoy meaningful activities within their local community.
