Dad turns hero after son threatened with knife on bus

Solihull Editorial 18th May, 2017   0

THE FATHER of an attempted armed robbery victim turned have-a-go-hero after receiving a call from his son saying he had been threatened with a knife on a bus.

The teenager was threatened with a knife and told to hand over his bike by three youths during an attempted robbery on the number 76 bus on Blossomfield Road on the afternoon of May 11.

The boy called his father and moments later he boarded the bus – managing to disarm one of the suspects who was holding a knife.

The youths fled empty handed after the victim’s dad ran to his aid and fended off the attackers.

Concerned passengers alerted police and officers were immediately dispatched, but the suspects had run off by the time they arrived.

Officers recovered a knife and a knuckle duster from the scene and these have been sent for forensic examination.

The suspect carrying the knife has been described as Asian, in his late teens, 5ft 4ins tall and chubby.

He had short black shaved hair and was wearing a black body warmer and tracksuit bottoms.

Anyone with information about what happened, or the identity of those involved, should call West Midlands Police on 101.

Alternatively information can be passed on to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
