A CYCLIST has been taken to hospital after collapsing during an organised cycle event in Lapworth on Sunday (July 19).

The accident happened at the junction of Station Road and Rising Road just before 2pm.

Before the ambulance crew arrived two nurses and a number of bystanders went to his aid to provide basic life support after he fell unconscious and went into cardiac arrest.

The man, believed to be in his sixties, was given life support with a defibrillator at the scene before he was taken to Warwick Hospital.

Ambulance crews praised the two nurses and several bystanders for the help and assistance given at the scene, which undoubtedly gave the patient the best possible chance of recovery.
