THE SUN shone as the crowds flocked to Shirley Carnival.
Residents descended upon Shirley Park and were entertained by Rebel Pro Wrestling who had the crowd cheering the heroes and booing the villain wrestlers, bands and Punch and Judy.
Solihull Mayor, Councillor Ken Meeson, and the Mayoress, Annette Meeson, officially opened the carnival and got the festivities under way.
The Shirley Pipe Band displayed their marching skills to the pipes and drums as did local dance and singing groups.
Revellers were also able to see Star Wars and Batman characters as Central Legion Costume Group walked about the park in costume.
Shirley Lions president, Claire De Jonge-Vors, said “It was a really good day with people enjoying themselves in the sunshine.
“Now that things are almost back to normal following the Covid pandemic, Shirley Lions are back in full swing with our fund raising and community activities.”
