Crackdown on illegal vehicles continues across Solihull

A NUMBER of vehicles have been seized across Solihull for having no tax, no insurance, and found to be stolen since the start of 2026.

In 2025, West Midlands Police removed over 7,000 uninsured drivers through various policing operations from the region’s streets.

Earlier this month officers were called to an abandoned vehicle in Kingshurst where they discovered it was untaxed so was seized by the team.

Later on in the week, the team stopped a vehicle while patrolling in the Castle Bromwich area.

The driver had no proof of insurance so was reported to the DLVA and the vehicle was seized.

The following evening, the team seized another vehicle for having no tax or insurance.

The LEOS team – that covers Lyndon , Elmdon, Olton and Silhill, pursued a vehicle on foot flagged as using cloned plates and suspected of being stolen.

PC James and Sgt Willetts, who are new to the team, caught one of the passengers and completed a stop search.

On this occasion nothing was found on the passenger, but the vehicle was found to have no insurance so was seized. Ongoing enquiries are happening to locate the driver of the vehicle.

And neighbourhood team covering Smiths Wood, Kingshurst, and Castle Bromwich, spotted a vehicle that had been previously reported for suspected antisocial behaviour.

After further checks, the vehicle had been declared off-road, so officers seized the vehicle to prevent further harm to the community.

In Chelmsley Wood, eagle-eyed officers spotted a motorbike stashed in an alleyway in Fordbridge. After further investigation, it was discovered to be stolen and remains in our police station until we locate the rightful owner.

Later on, the same team discovered another vehicle driving on false plates so was seized pending further investigation.
