Countdown is on for this years Shirley Carnival

PREPARATION ahead of Shirley Lions Carnival next month are nearly complete.

For 45 years, the Lions have been organising the carnival, and it has become an important event of the communities calendar.

This years headline acts will be the Ridgeside Falconty, the Brumvik Vikings, VX Dance and the Shirley Pipe Band, whilst the old favourites, such as Punch and Judy and the Mini Landers will also be present.

As usual the carnival will also incorporate the Shirley Fun Dog Show, with six categories – waggiest tail, oldest dog, junior handler, best six legs and carnival King and Queen.

Young children have not been forgotten as ABC Bounce Factory will be providing the usual rides, alongside stall holders with attractions galore.

This year they are raising money for the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, as well as the Lions own charities.

Carnival chairman Andrea Lee said: “It is hoped that people in Shirley will turn up in their thousands to support these worthwhile causes.”

The fun starts at 12pm on Satuday July 11 at Shirley Park.

Tickets are £3 per person and £10 for a family group with all proceeds going to charity.
