A SOLIHULL singleton shared his first ever date with the nation when he appeared on The Undateables.

‘Technicolour dreamboat’ Alex Manners went on a date with Rebecca when the pair visited a wildlife park filmed for the Channel Four show.

Alex admitted he becomes quite nervous when it comes to dating despite being confident when public speaking about his Asperger’s – a form of autism.

He said: “Dating is one of the only things that I ever really get nervous about. It can be difficult for me to read people’s body language and facial expression, so even if a particular girl liked me then unless they told me I would not know. This is just one part of my Asperger’s, which can make dating very difficult.”

The 22-year-old was matched with Rebecca, who also has Asperger’s, by a team of dating experts on the show.

Alex said: “The date itself went much better than I expected and we both got on extremely well.

“Rebecca had a wonderful personality and from the moment we first met each other she made me feel comfortable and put my nerves at ease.

“During the date we went and fed the meerkats, something that I would never have done before.

“We had so much in common that when she was telling me about herself it almost felt as though she was speaking about me.”

At the end of the date the pair sat in front of the cameras and spoke about the other.

They decided to swap numbers and have kept in touch.
