COLOURFUL activities and displays are set to light up Solihull town centre this weekend to celebrate Diwali.

There will be workshops in shadow puppet-making, dance and performance, glowing sculptures, neon face painting and an illustration competition to celebrate the festival of light on Friday (November 1) and Saturday (November 2).

The events are being held across The Core and Touchwood Shopping Centre in partnership with the two and Solihull BID, Art at the Heart and Solihull Council.

From 10.30am there will also be the chance to help create a community light sculpture which will transform into a Diwali character, try on a sari, take part in a dance workshop and taste authentic Indian food at The Core.

Melanie Palmer, chief executive at Solihull BID, said: “We are delighted to join in the Diwali celebrations this year and looking forward to seeing the amazing creative workshops with puppets, dance and much more.

“This is an event for the whole family to enjoy and once again will see the Solihull town centre coming together with community spirit.”

Tony Elvin, General manager at Touchwood, said: “At Touchwood, we offer an experience that is welcoming for all and celebrates inclusivity and diversity across the region.

“With special events taking place in the Tipi in Theatre Square and various workshops, the celebrations will ensure that all of our guests get to experience the richness and colour of Diwali.”
