Co-op in renewed bid to boost funds for Headway charity

Solihull Editorial 23rd Aug, 2021   0

SHOPPERS urged to support local brain injury charity Headway Birmingham & Solihull after it was chosen as one of the Co-op’s local causes for 2020/2021.

With just two months to go in this this year’s scheme the charity is appealing to shoppers to get behind them.

Julie Wedgbury of Headway Birmingham & Solihull, said: “We were delighted to be chosen as one of the Co-op’s local causes and have already received a mid-term donation of £1,316.27 from the scheme.

“This is helping us provide sports and wellbeing activities for our brain injured clients and their families, with the support they need to enable them to participate.

“There are two months to go before the scheme closes and we are hearing from the Co-op that many of their members have still not selected a local cause, and so there are funds waiting to be allocated in our local community.

“We would therefore urge anyone shopping at the local Co-op store or further afield, to take a moment to choose us as their cause to help boost our fundraising in the last few weeks of the initiative.”

She confirmed all money raised would make a real difference to the services the charity can provide, particularly following the challenges presented by the outbreak of Covid-19 over the last 18-months.

Julie added: “Many of our clients have underlying health conditions in addition to their brain injury, and so had to shield completely during Covid.

“Sessions like gardening and sports encourage them to be more active, helping offset the impact of isolating at home for so long, and we plan to use any further grant from the Co-op Local Community Fund to continue providing these type of activities.”

She urged people to sign up to the scheme and present their Co-op membership card to generate a 2p in the £1 donation for purchases of selected own-brand goods and services.
