AN INTREPID explorer has conquered Mount Everest in aid of a Solihull charity.

Rohan Anand trekked 80-miles in 12 consecutive days reached altitudes of 18,373 feet on his Himalayan adventure.

The 23-year-old took on the mammoth challenge to raise money for the Carers Trust Solihull.

The audit trainee at BDO spent three weeks in Nepal preparing for, and completing, the challenge.

He trekked seven miles a day, starting from Lukla, before reaching Everest base camp.

Rohan said: “The Carers Trust Solihull is an incredible charity, which supports adult and young carers looking after people who are disabled, elderly or ill.

“The charity offers vital help, advice, assistance, service, advocacy, and education to try and help ease the burden of carers – a cause close to my heart and one I really wanted to support in the best way possible.

“The Everest base camp trek is definitely one to tick off the bucket list and a must-do challenge for enthusiastic trekkers. I’m delighted to have completed the trek, particularly for such an amazing cause.”

So far, Rohan has raised nearly £1,300 for the Midlands-based charity, following the gruelling trek.

Kyla Bellingall, partner and regional managing partner at BDO LLP in the Midlands, said: “To combine his studies, work, and a gruelling challenge, is something to be very proud of.

“At BDO, volunteering and supporting regional and local charitable causes and community initiatives is extremely important part of our people proposition. Rohan is setting a wonderful example in the early stages of his career at the firm and we’re delighted the Carers Trust Solihull is benefitting in such a positive way.”
