Classic Land Rover blueprints become colourful art in Solihull

RARE blueprints of Land Rover, Leyland, Triumph, MG and vintage Minis that were destined for the scrap heap are set to go on display in Solihull.

French artist Alan Reullier has transformed the prints into contemporary artworks for a free exhibition at The Courtyard Gallery.

Up to 20 original Midlands motor industry drawings from Solihull, Cowley and Coventry, which the artist has reclaimed and transformed into contemporary artworks will be shown alongside a Peaky Blinders-themed artwork, released as a limited-edition print.

Among the hundreds of rescued plans is a mechanical diagram of a Land Rover, now alive with Reullier’s signature black-and-white motifs.

Reullier, whose career includes collaborations with industrial and aerospace giants such as Dassault, Iveco and Faiveley Transport, works in the margins of these original technical drawings, turning negative space into bold patterns that celebrate the craftsmanship of Midlands engineers.

Influenced by Arte Povera and Readymade art, Reullier transforms reclaimed industrial and natural materials into vibrant compositions, insisting, “there is no such thing as rubbish.” His work bridges history and imagination, honouring the Midlands’ motoring heritage while creating something entirely new for art lovers and car enthusiasts alike.

Reullier said: “I’ve worked with the history and spent countless hours researching stories.

“It’s an honour to collaborate with British Motor Heritage and contribute my artistic vision to their legacy.

“I’m inspired by the chance to push the boundaries of automotive design and create something unique that resonates with all audiences.”
