Citizens Advice Chat: We're all here to help you through tough times

Solihull Editorial 30th Mar, 2025   0

In a world where many confront invisible battles, the Citizens Advice service is a beacon of hope for individuals facing challenging times. With 28 years of experience, one dedicated member has shared their journey, illustrating the profound impact of community support.

Moving around the Midlands, this volunteer has witnessed an array of human experiences. “When you give advice for a living, you think you’ve seen it all, but sometimes, a story still hits hard,” they expressed. Recently, they encountered a person whose struggles left a lasting impression. This individual, known to several community organisations and the local authority, has navigated trauma and is now onX welfare benefits. Despite their hardships, they managed to greet the staff with a smile, embodying resilience in the face of adversity.

This experience is not isolated; the reality is stark for many in Solihull. Numerous residents face daunting challenges, and for each person who seeks help, many more remain unaware of the support available.

At the heart of the Citizens Advice Solihull Borough service is the commitment to providing quality quality advice, information and guidance services alongside providing essential resources. Through comprehensive assessments, our volunteers assist with everything from maximising income, trust fund applications to food aid. They help clients access vital funds for necessities, providing up to 13 days’ worth of fuel money, reducing outgoings and addressing diverse issues including benefits, housing, consumer rights, employment, legal concerns, relationships, health, and taxation. If we cannot help we know an organisation that can.

“This week reinforced the need for our service,” said the Team member. “Everyone deserves access to information and advice, and we are here to ensure that no one feels alone in their struggles.”
