As we gather with our families this Christmas, I want to extend my warmest wishes to everyone. This season is a reminder of the values that bind us together – generosity, compassion, and community spirit.
This year marked the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, a moment that encouraged Britons to pause and reflect. We remember the courage of those who fought to defend our country, and the quiet selflessness they displayed in the face of unimaginable hardship. Their example is a powerful guide for us today.
Christmas has always been about looking beyond ourselves. The true spirit of the season lies in noticing those around us – the neighbour who may be alone, the family facing a difficult winter, or the person who simply needs a kind word. Even the smallest gesture of a conversation or card can brighten someone’s day. Our community is fortunate to have many incredible local charities who embody this spirit all year round, including Troop Aid, The Cameron Grant Memorial Trust, Newlands Bishop Farm, Royal Star and Garter, and many more.
