Choristers ready to shine in New York

Solihull Editorial 16th Mar, 2023   0

CHORISTERS will be heading to The Big Apple to perform in a concert with the Pitch Perfect producer.

Around 50 adult members of Pop Voices have been invited by Deke Sharon to perform an a capella at Carnegie Hall in New York, which he will be conducting.

The New York concert, called Total Vocal, has been added to the prestige places the choir, which has bases in Solihull, Balsall Common, Kenilworth, Wootton Wawen and Redditch, has performed.

The list includes Birmingham’s Town Hall, Resorts World, the Tower of London, Abbey Road Studios in London and the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony.

Anya Small, director of Pop Voices, said: “A capella is challenging for a pop choir like us more used to belting out pop classics to music.

“We’re used to mastering harmonies but singing a capella our voices become the instruments – it’s a challenge the choir have risen to wonderfully meeting in small groups for weeks practising hard.

“We’re so excited about the trip, performing on one of the world’s greatest stages, and being coached and conducted by Deke, the king of a capella thanks to the Pitch Perfect movies.

“I am very proud of them, just as I am of every single member of the Pop Voices family.”
