Cheswick Green set to be 'Cleaned for the Queen'

DOZENS of litter pickers will turn out in force tomorrow (March 5) as part of the national ‘Clean For The Queen’ operation.

Cleaning up Cheswick Green Park, the litter pickers are joining the campaign to clear up Britain in time for Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday – which will officially be celebrated in June.

When Queen Elizabeth first came to the throne, litter was not the problem that it is today.

Food packaging, plastic bottles, takeaway meals and cigarette butts have all contributed to the decline in British streets which has affected wildlife, countryside and sense of pride.

Nationally, the clear up started today (March 4) and will run until Sunday.

Cheswick Green ‘Clean For The Queen’ organiser Martin Williams said: “We are clearing up all open spaces within the village and this is a community led project supported by Solihull Council.

“It should be a great event whilst helping to clear up our streets at the same time.”
