‘CHECK your fob has done its job.’ That is the message from an Olton councillor who hopes to raise awareness of car theft in his ward.

Councillor Bob Grinsell is urging residents to be vigilant in checking their key fob has locked their car doors before leaving their vehicles unattended.

Alongside local campaigner, Wazma Qais, and the local neighbourhood police team, Coun Grinsell went round houses in his ward checking car doors were locked and alerting owners to those which were not.

The check began after a number of unlocked vehicles had been stolen from driveways.

Coun Grinsell said: “Whilst the local police were out patrolling in the area recently, in a period of just one and a half hours, over 25 vehicles were found to be unlocked.

“This is staggering and we would like to urge all residents to be extra careful with checking their vehicles, particularly as insurance companies don’t always pay out when vehicles are left unlocked.”
