CELEBRATIONS and champagne marked a Solihull man’s 105th birthday.
Jack Roberts was surrounded by his wife, friends and staff from Sunrise of Solihull, on November 20.
A celebration, complete with a birthday cake, balloons and a champagne toast with all the team singing Happy Birthday to Jack, was hosted by staff at the assisted living facility in Worcester Way, Shirley. Jack was also thrilled to receive a birthday card from the Queen.
Jack moved to Sunrise of Solihull with his wife Iris in July. Before their move, they lived in Earlswood, Shirley, and Kings Heath in Birmingham, and Jack enjoyed a career in the car industry.
The pair have been happily married for 73 years and have a daughter, Jean, who lives in Spain with her family, but visits often.
When asked for their top tips for living to 100, Jack and Iris couldn’t pinpoint any one thing but did agree on “a good wife and a good family.”
Jack and Iris have always been active and enjoyed horse riding, roller-blading and ice skating for many years, with Jack becoming an ice skating judge.
The pair played golf and did a lot of walking, and both are accomplished ballroom and Latin American dancers.
