Celebrating Diawli with singing and dancing

BOLLYWOOD dancing and Bhangra music were part of Diawli celebrations at Balsall Common Primary School.

Year three pupils marked the end of their topic with some special guests, and a practical demonstration of different traditional dances.

First Anushka Amliwala, from Aspire Dance in Birmingham, got the energy levels soaring when she explained the history of Bollywood Dance and showed the children through some of the moves.

When asked if they wanted to join in there was no stopping them – all of the children and staff were on their feet joining in.

Next, Mandeep Heer from Cardio Bhangra Fitness in Coventry followed up with a classic Bhangra tune.

And finally Jamilah from Core Gym in Leamington performed Garba – a type of Indian dance.




Howard Rose, the director of funding and publicity at the school, said: “What an absolutely fantastic day, it was great to see literally everyone joining in.

“The energy was amazing; I think I might sign up for a class myself.


“A huge thanks must go to the instructors for giving up their time, this is another great example of community supporting the community and CSR in action.”
