Care home makes 100-year-old Silhillian ice skating dream come true

SILHILLIAN Hilda Townsend at Fountains care home had always wanted to go ice skating so staff at the home made Hilda’s dream a reality proving the old adage, it’s never too late.

Hilda has lived at Fountains for over a year and is beloved by staff and residents alike.

Staff at the home were delighted to be a part of making Hilda’s dream come true, as they knew how much it meant to her, and they all wanted to be there to see the smile on Hilda’s face when her dream was realised.

Staff first found out about Hilda’s dream at the end of the summer and, ever since then, they have been dedicated to helping Hilda achieve it.

Hilda was also accompanied by friends and staff, who were there to witness this momentous occasion.

Hilda, said: “I was on the verge of tears. It is such an amazing feeling to know that such a loving group of people care so much about me that they helped me to live out my dream, who would have thought that at 100 years old I would be on the ice.”

Kim Dean, general manager at the home, said: “We believe that every moment is worth cherishing, especially at this time of the year.

“We want everyone we care for to know how important they are to us here at Fountains care home.

“It is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team here in making our residents’ dreams come true.

“It was wonderful to see how happy Hilda was – and the staff loved being a part of this as well.”
