COMMUNITY spirit was in full swing when a Monkspath care home resident celebrated her 100th birthday.

Carers at The Priory Bupa Care Home called on Silhillians to send 100 cards to Elsie Blissett to mark her special day on September 11.

She received an impressive 129 cards from the community plus an additional 11 from her family and friends, and of course one from King Charles.

The Priory said: “Elsie was very incredibly grateful for this, and had a wonderful day celebrating with her family and great grandson visiting.”

As well as hosting a day of celebrations the home planted Elsie’s rose underneath her bedroom window, and chefs made 100 cupcakes to celebrate the day alongside live music.

Elsie Blissett was born in Gorton, Manchester and moved to Solihull with her husband in the 1970s.

She was an active member of her local church where she led a number of clubs for children, weekly lunches, and events to raise money for various charities.

Elsie has always been active and sociable with good friends from all areas of her life.

She worked part time at Baddesley Clinton, a National Trust property.

When asked about her secret to a long and happy life, Elsie shared: “A good breakfast of bacon and egg every morning!”
