Cancer unit undergoes major refurbishment

Solihull Editorial 12th Mar, 2020   0

WARWICK Hospital’s cancer unit has undergone a major refurbishment.

The Aylesford Unit has made changes in a bid to improve the experience for patients.

Among the upgrades is new furniture and equipment to make the unit more comfortable for those receiving chemotherapy along with their relatives who attend appointments to provide support. A conservatory has also been built.

And work is currently underway to replace the flooring, install new artwork and new music system.

It has been funded by charity the Rigby Foundation, which was set up by entrepreneur Sir Peter Rigby and also paid for the cancer unit at Stratford Hospital.

Additional funding for the project was also provided by South Warwickshire Foundation Trust’s ‘SWFT Charity’.

Cancer nurse consultant Carole Connor said: “We’re extremely grateful for the continued support of the Rigby Foundation as it helps to provide the enhancements that can make a real difference.

“Chemotherapy patients can spend a lot of time with us and the treatment can be draining both physically and mentally. This is why having a comfortable and pleasant environment for patients and their relatives is so beneficial.”

Sir Peter recently visited the site to see the upgrades.

He said: “I’m very pleased to see the improvements made to the Aylesford Unit, all of the recent work has transformed it. I can see a real attention to detail in creating an environment that is comfortable for patients and their loved ones. It’s a pleasure to be able to provide funds to enhance the facility so it complements the fantastic work of the dedicated Aylesford Unit team.”
