A CANCER survivor, who has raised more than £121,000, has launched her 20th annual charity quiz in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support after winning her own battle with breast cancer.

Joyce Rothschild began her record-breaking charity campaign after suffering an aggressive form of cancer 20 years ago.

Her gratitude for the treatment she received was shown when she launched a Quiz with all proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The first proceeds were used to buy crucial equipment for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where she was treated and since then, more than £111,000 has been given to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The 60-year-old and her husband, Mark, keep the high-level of interest alive by setting the 100 questions based around a theme, this year it is time.

Joyce thanked her long-time friend, Yasmi Roberts, for all her essential work to help with the fundraising efforts.

Joyce added: “This 20th year for the Quiz is a huge landmark for me.

“I am lucky to have so many people who have maintained their long term interest.

“They make this generous effort not so much for the chance of winning the first prize of £35 but for the pleasure they say they get from taking part.

“They have become like a family willing to support a charity close to their hearts.”

Joyce received a British Citizens Award to acknowledge her mammoth achievement and shares with her loyal band of supporters the enormous credit they receive from Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan volunteer worker Cheryl Attwood was at the launch of Joyce’s 20th annual quiz held at her home in Alderbrook Road alongside others who help with the quiz over the years.

Cheryl, who has also had cancer, praised the enormous result of efforts that enabled the charity to continue to provide valuable help for cancer patients and their carers.

she said: “Without the amazing amounts you raise our work would be made much more difficult.”
