A SOLIHULL youngster has been handed a top volunteer police award.
Ryan Hulance was handed the Volunteer of the Year Award at West Midlands Police’s Excellence Awards which recognises those in the police family and the community who have made a significant contribution to making the region a safer place over the last year.
At just 11 years old, Ryan founded We Can Community CIC – an organisation that collects empty drinks cans then turns the waste into revenue.
This is then used to purchase food for local foodbanks.
So far, his efforts have already made a significant impact and he has helped provide thousands of pounds worth of food, toiletries and breakfast packs for those in need.
He has also collaborated with various partners across Solihull and Birmingham to maximise impact.
Ryan’s innovation, community engagement and ability to inspire action are just a few of the qualities that make him, and We Can Community CIC, stand out from the crowd.
Ryan said: “I am deeply honoured and humbled to have been nominated for the West Midlands Police Volunteer of the Year Award. A heartfelt thank you to the West Midlands Police for this incredible recognition—it means so much to me.
“This journey has been truly rewarding, and I am so proud of the work we’ve accomplished together. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of meeting some truly exceptional people who inspire me every day with their dedication and kindness.
“It was an unforgettable experience, filled with celebration, gratitude, and amazing company. Thank you to everyone who has supported me—I couldn’t have done it without you. Here’s to continuing the work and making a difference together!”
