Campaign launched to keep Solihull's roads safe

MAKING Solihull’s roads safer is at the heart of a new campaign.

Solihull Council has launched a new initiative to create a more considerate driving culture across the borough.

It also aims to help motorists understand the needs of cyclists, motorcyclists, older people, and children who travel through the borough every day.

The campaign is funded by the Department for Transport’s Safer Roads Fund.

It follows extensive local research, including surveys and focus groups.

As a result, the campaign particularly highlights the dangers of speeding, phone use behind the wheel and giving consideration to more vulnerable road users, such as cyclists and pedestrians.

The campaign focuses on all road users and encourages them to be more aware of how irresponsible behaviours can change people’s lives forever.

Councillor Ken Hawkins, cabinet member for Environment and Infrastructure, said: “With this campaign, we make it clear that each driver can help prevent collisions by being mindful of all road users. The consequences of careless driving can be felt by many, but it can just take one person’s change in behaviour to prevent a tragedy.”
