Bus for Solihull veterans thanks to John Lewis shoppers

VETERANS in Solihull are set to benefit from a new minibus, after kindhearted shoppers at John Lewis raised over a grand.

The Royal Star & Garter care home in Solihull, which accommodates former service men and women with disabilities, will spend the money raised on a new minibus.

Shoppers at the John Lewis store on Homer Road raised £1,014 in the department store’s Community Matters scheme in autumn last year.

Green tokens are used by shoppers to decide where John Lewis should donate to local causes.

The bus will help tenants attend medical appointments and go on outings.

Caley Eldred, director of supporter engagement for the charity, said: “We’re very grateful to John Lewis for their support, and to their shoppers for raising more than £1,000 for the Solihull minibus. This will greatly benefit the residents, helping them on go outings and to important medical appointments. I know they will want to thank everyone who voted for us.
