A PAIR of students with a nose for news have been handed a top prize.
Elsa Lowther and Lily Beddows won first and second place respectively in the Cooper Prize for Journalism competition at Solihull Sixth Form College.
The competition is run in memory of a much-loved former member of the English department Chris Cooper, who died in March 2022 and is open to A level English Language and English Literature students, and members of the Creative writing enrichment course at the college.
Elsa wrote an article about archaeology focusing on the ethical debate surrounding the study and exhibition of human remains.
And Lily wrote a personal article about grief and the impact it has had on her.
Jane McCard, curriculum leader for English and Modern Languages at the College, said: “Congratulations to Elsa and Lily for their inspiring articles.
“They both tackled very interesting subject matter and their articles were very thought-provoking.
“We handed out their prizes at the recent College Awards Evening in front of an audience of staff, students and parents.”
