BUDDING engineers from Balsall Common Primary School that won the Sponsorship and Marketing award in the F1 in Schools Challenge were treated to an afternoon in the pit lanes at Silverstone.

The Lightning Strikes team who won the Warwickshire regional final and the National Final were given a VIP backstage, access all areas tour of the British Formula One track thanks to one of the school sponsors – Ginger Properties.

Whilst at the circuit pupils saw the back of house areas of Silverstone that the general public would never be allowed to see.

Carl Hemming, owner of Ginger Properties said: “I felt that with my involvement with Silverstone race School over the last seven years as a race driver and instructor, it would be a great idea to work with Balsall Common Primary School in organising a trip to Silverstone for the pupils who were involved in the competition.

“It was a pleasure to see their faces light up when they stood on the podium that only five days prior to their visit Lewis Hamilton raised the trophy for Great Britain and to visit Race Control, The Wing, the garages and to see the Ferraris and Aston Martins.

“They would be able to see the big kids from colleges and universities throughout the World competing in Formula Student – basically a bigger version of F1 in schools.

“This was a great chance to discover the opportunities that lay ahead for the children later down their educational journey and in their working life.

“I hope this opened their eyes to the amazing working opportunities that are out there.”
