BUDDING chemists put their skills to the test in the UK Chemistry Olympiad.

A team of 11 A-level Chemistry students at Solihull Sixth Form College took on the challenge, which is an annual test set by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

It offers an opportunity for students to challenge themselves in the field of Chemistry, develop critical problem-solving skills and test their knowledge in real-world situations.

The paper takes learners significantly beyond their A level syllabus and students are to be commended for achieving such good results, as eight learners attained a Bronze certificate, two reached the Silver standard and one got the Gold award.

The students who were successful in achieving certification in the Challenge were Rai Abdul Rehman, Jamshed Riaz, Humza Akhtar, Hazifa Moazam Hashmi, Fawaz Abdul Jameen, Daniel Amoussou-Ojomo and Cali Ali Ahmed at Bronze level, Leon Walker and Amin Adro Aihan at Silver level and Alfie Brusch, who achieved the Gold standard.

Chemistry curriculum leader Simon Windsor said: “Congratulations to all 11 learners for pushing themselves by taking on this challenge.

“They volunteered to participate in the Olympiad and it involves very advanced Chemistry.

“They all did exceptionally well and their achievements will stand them in good stead for their A level examinations this summer and for their progression onto Higher Education.”
