Bringing Mother's Day cheer to Solihull care home

FLORAL gifts helped spread some Mother’s Day joy at a Solihull care home.

Sainsbury’s in Mell Square, donated flowers to Royal Star and Garter which have been used by residents and those using the care home’s Day Care service for flower-arranging activities.

The floral arrangements were taken to the home by Day Care users to go on display in residents rooms, in communal areas, or gave them as a gift to others living in the Home which cares for veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia.

Day Care user Joyce said: “I really enjoy the flower-arranging sessions, I feel relaxed when I do it, and I think it boosts my sense of calm and wellbeing. It also brings so much colour and beauty to the Home.”

Day Care is available to Armed Forces veterans, including those who did their National Service, and their partners, and includes dedicated days for people living with early-stage dementia.

The supermarket’s regular gifts to the Solihull Home comes after an approach by day care coordinator Louise Taylor, who visited the store in February.

She said: “Sainsbury’s said they’d be able to donate flowers for our flower-arranging activities on a regular basis.

“It brings a lot of joy to the residents and Day Care users, and a lot of colour and enjoyment to the Home.

“We’re very grateful to Sainsbury’s for these ongoing donations and their generosity.”
