A DUMPED camping stove sparked panic in Knowle today (Thursday) when it was thought to be a ‘suspicious package’.

Eye witnesses say officers from West Midlands Police cordoned off the High Street at around 10.30am this morning as they investigated the reports of a package at the side of a bin outside the One Stop shop.

But panic subsided when the ‘suspicious package’ was discovered to be a discarded camping stove.

A spokesperson from West Midlands Police said: “Officers attended the scene and placed a cordon of 100m around the suspicious package.

“We discovered it was a camping stove and removed the cordon at 11am.”
