Boost to care home's fundraising challenge for Age UK Solihull

THERE WERE smiles all round as a care home raised £2,000 for charity.

Macc Care’s Blossomfield Rose Care Home has been raising funds for older people’s charity Age UK Solihull, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

The Blossomfield Road care home hosted an Easter Fun Day which saw more than 200 people attend.

There was plenty on offer, including an Easter egg hunt, a magician entertainer, face painting, chick handling, refreshments, Easter crafts and games, a movie in the home’s cinema room, and an Easter bonnet competition, which was judged by two of the home’s residents.

The event raised over £970.

The home’s operations manager, Sonia Tenniswood, raised even more funds for the charity by completing a tandem skydive at Hinton Skydiving Centre in Northamptonshire. She raised £515 in donations, which was matched by Macc Care, bringing her fundraising total to £1,030.

Sonia said: “It was the most thrilling experience and I urge everyone to do it. All you need is 20 seconds of insane courage and you won’t look back.”

The skydive took place on the same day as Margaret’s, a Blossomfield Rose resident, 101st birthday.

Margaret’s wish, should she reach 101 years was to do a skydive herself, so the care home’s team arranged for Sonia’s dive to be dedicated to Margaret and videoed so Margaret could experience it alongside her.

Rebecca Jacob, digital marketing and fundraising manager at Age UK Solihull, says, “We are so grateful for the support of the team at Blossomfield Rose.

“As a local charity, £2,000 will go a long way to helping us to provide advice, support and companionship for Solihull residents when they need us most.”
