Book lovers called on to take on Summer Reading Challenge over school holidays

Solihull Editorial 19th Jul, 2022   0

BOOKWORMS in Solihull are being challenged to read six books across the school summer holidays.

Children ages four to 11 can take part in this year’s School Summer Reading Challenge Gadgeteers, which gives children the opportunity to win some exciting prizes.

The challenge is free to join and runs until Saturday 10 September.

To take part, all children need to do is sign up at their nearest library where they will receive a collector’s card and can pick up a set of stickers each time they borrow and read a library book.

Councillor Diane Howell, cabinet member for Communities and Leisure, said: “The Summer Reading Challenge provides a great incentive for children to continue reading over the summer and have fun trying out some new authors.

“I hope many children pick up a book and take part.

“I encourage families across the borough to get their children involved in the reading challenge and the various activities that are being offered at our libraries across the summer holidays.

“Many activities have been organised to keep children entertained and engaged.”

Those who complete the challenge can earn themselves a medal, certificate, free swim voucher, and the chance to enter a free prize draw.

Prizes in the draw include a family ticket to Beauty and the Beast at The Core Theatre this Christmas and vouchers to spend in Touchwood, Waterstones, or The Entertainer.

Solihull libraries will be holding activities for children throughout the summer. For example, on Thursday 28 July, Cambridge University Hands-On Science (CHaOS), a free drop-in event where families can try out 10 experiments, will be held at The Core.
