AN ANIMAL charity has been praised for its work to support Solihull pet owners, promote animal welfare, and strengthen community safety.

Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, Solihull West and Shirley MP, visited the Blue Cross in Solihull to find out more about the work they do.

Blue Cross provides a lifeline for families struggling with the rising cost of veterinary treatment.

Through its Veterinary Care Fund, the charity can offer up to £300 towards treatment costs for pets whose owners are unable to afford routine or unexpected vet bills.

Support is available where the prognosis is good, treatment will preserve a quality of life, and surgery is anticipated to be curative.

Applications are made via veterinary practices, ensuring help reaches pets who need it most.

Dr Shastri-Hurst said: “It was inspiring to see the dedication of the Blue Cross team here in Solihull.

“Pets are valued family members, and no-one should have to face the heartbreak of being unable to care for them due to cost.

“The Veterinary Care Fund is a compassionate and practical scheme that makes a real difference to households across our community.”

Blue Cross also highlighted the importance of responsible dog ownership, including support for community safety and preventing dog-related incidents.

The charity’s Responsible Dog Ownership Course (RDOC) has proven effective in improving behaviour and reducing reoffending, and Blue Cross is calling for greater investment to expand this nationally.
