A CHARITY dog show has been cancelled due to safety concerns amid rising temperatures.
A heatwave has been predicted to hit parts of the region by the weekend with temperatures set to reach 30C in Solihull.
Birmingham Dog Home has called off its Royal Family Fun Day, which was due to take place on Saturday (June 21) at Tudor Grange Park.
In a statement the charity said: “With the extreme heat forecast, we have to put the welfare of everyone, especially our four-legged friends, first.
“As much as we were looking forward to a fun-filled day, it simply wouldn’t be right to encourage dogs and families to be out in the midday sun during a heatwave.
“Together with our amazing sponsors Ancol Pet Products, we want, to thank you all for your support and understanding. This isn’t the outcome any of us wanted, but we know it’s the right thing to do for the safety of our visitors, volunteers, stallholders, and of course, the dogs we all care for.
“Please stay safe in the heat and give your dogs an extra cuddle from us.”
The charity added that it is looking to reschedule the fun day for later in the year,
