BIRMINGHAM Airport police officers pedaled the distance of a flight to Cancun for charity.

As the TUI flight took off, so did officers and staff at the Airport to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The team called themselves Fin’s Flyers in honour of a colleague’s son who is fighting leukaemia and being treated at the hospital.

The officers, who gave up their rest day to take part, covered 4,800 miles and beat their fundraising target of £2,000.

Together with everyone involved in the Race the Plane event more than £80,000 was raised.

Chief Inspector Dan Lowe, from West Midlands Police: “I’m very proud of the team for giving up their rest day for a fantastic cause.

“They work hard to prevent crime and protect the public as they pass through Birmingham Airport and the surrounding areas.

“The team are like a family and it’s heartwarming that they have come together to support Fin and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.”
