THE MOTORCYCLIST who died on the A45 near Birmingham Airport last month has been named by Police.

Steven McCarthy, 48, from Birmingham suffered fatal head injuries after falling from his bike and hitting the central reservation on the A45 Coventry Road on May 21.

It happened near the junction with Catherine-de-Barnes Lane at around 12.15pm and the Police are appealing for witnesses who have not already come forward.

Police want to speak to a man and woman from a dark-coloured SUV-type car which was not involved in the collision but stopped to offer immediate help to Steven.

Sergeant Alan Wood, from the Regional Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Steven’s family are understandably devastated by his death and we owe it to them to establish exactly what happened.

“Steven was riding his grey Suzuki 650 motorbike along the A45 towards Birmingham and we continue to keep an open mind around why this collision happened.

“A number of people stopped at the scene to help and have assisted us with our investigation.”

A 22-year-old woman – and a man aged 19 – were arrested in connection with the collision and have been released pending further investigation.

Anyone with information should call Sgt Wood on 101 or email [email protected].

Alternatively call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
