A PAIR of friends who bonded over a passion for art are set to continue their studies together.
Ember Leigh and Hope Demaret-Smith have secured places to study Fine Art at the internationally renowned Central Saint Martins, part of the University of the Arts London – which is considered one of the world’s most prestigious art and design institutions.
The duo have just completed the UAL Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at the College, designed to bridge the gap between college and university, enabling students to build on existing skills and explore new creative disciplines.
They first met at Erdington Academy when they were 14 years old and quickly discovered a mutual love of art.
Hope said: “My mum painted and my brother taught me how to draw when I was young.
“I’ve always enjoyed being able to express myself through art.”
Ember added: “I didn’t enjoy school. The only thing I enjoyed was art because it was an escape. I had to sit next to Hope in art because she was the best and my teacher told me I had to push myself.
“I believe anyone can learn to draw. Just like you can learn maths, you can learn to draw. I’d love to have my own creative space one day, with a studio and workshop, where I could host art parties and help people discover their artistic side.”
