A BERKSWELL farm dedicated to visitors with special needs and their families is set to get a cash boost.

Spencer’s Retreat Farm has been chosen as Brindley Twist Tafft and James (BBTJ)’s – a Midlands law firm – charity of the year.

Alex Khan, managing partner of BTTJ, said: “We are pleased to announce that Spencer’s Retreat Farm will be BTTJ’s new charity of the year.

“This is a small, local charity that relies on fundraising, and we hope to be able to assist them with this throughout the year.

“We will organise various fundraising events, and we kicked off our campaign with a staff ‘dress in red and white day’ to coincide with St George’s Day on April 23.”

Spencer’s Retreat Farm is not open to the public but takes private bookings for families and groups with special needs.

It has sheep, goats, chickens and horses to feed, plus play areas, stables and a tented area, creating a fun, safe and understanding environment, without the hustle and bustle of a publicly open attraction.

David Warrender, chair of The Langdale Trust – which the farm is part of, said: “We are honoured to have been chosen by BTTJ to be their charity of the year.

“It is a superb reflection of their commitment to supporting their community that they have chosen us, a small local charity run entirely by volunteers.”
