THERE WERE smiles all round when a Berkswell farm was handed a generous donation.
Spencer’s Retreat Farm was handed £1,500 donation from David Wilson Homes as part of the developer’s Community Fund scheme, which will go towards the winter feed bills.
Spencer’s Retreat Farm, which is operated by The Langdale Trust, is run by a team of trustees and volunteers.
It specialises in catering for those with ASD neurodiversity but welcomes all young people, school groups and care homes to find out about life on the farm.
Lucy Warrender, trustee at The Langdale Trust, said: “So far this year, we have had over a hundred families of children with SEN visit us.
“Some families are regular as they know we are a place where they can bring their children and have a positive experience.
“The donation from David Wilson Homes will go towards our winter feed bills. Bags of animal feed has almost doubled in the last year. We do not charge much for entry as we want our farm to be accessible and we will also put part of the donation towards our fully disabled toilet project.
“We have local schools and care homes visit us. They benefit from our services greatly and a donation such as the one from David Wilson Homes gives us security that we can continue offering our services to them.”
Dominic Harman, managing director at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “The Langdale Trust and Spencer’s Retreat Farm are doing vital work in helping support disadvantaged children through a plethora of engaging and stimulating activities, so we are very proud to support the charity in return.
“We wish its volunteers the best of luck and we’re encouraging more people to support their local community where possible.”
